Can you tell me more about your free consultation?
It’s important for you to feel like you’re making the best choice in finding a psychologist or psychotherapist. According to research, having a good fit with your psychotherapist is one of the most important predictors for having a successful outcome. This is why we offer free consultative chats by phone, secure video conferencing, or in person. Generally, consultations last about 15-30 minutes. It’s a chance to discuss your reason for wanting to work with a psychologist/psychotherapist, your goals, and to get your questions answered. The most important part of the consultation is having enough time for you to determine if you would like to work with us! No deep dives into your psyche--just an opportunity for us to decide together if booking a session is the best next step. You won’t be considered a client of the practice until you book a formal session so no pressure for commitment.
Am I required to have a free consultation in order to schedule a session?
Nope! If you’re ready to get going, you can book an appointment using our online scheduler by clicking “Schedule a Session” at the top of this page. You can also call our office to schedule an appointment at 703-721-7521.
Please note: If you are unable to book a session with Dr. Lindsey Berjansky or Gwendolyn Kearney, LCSW using the online scheduler, please call the office to inquire if they are taking new clients. Sometimes, appointment times are not available to be displayed via the online scheduler, but our practitioners may be able to get you in depending on the days and times you have available. When in doubt, please give us a call!
What is the first step?
If you are ready to schedule an appointment, please click “Schedule a session” (at the top of this page) to book an intake appointment using our online scheduler. Please ensure you choose the correct office location to reflect your telehealth online or in-office preference for our meeting. You can also make an appointment by calling our office at 703-721-7521.
Once we confirm a scheduled appointment, we will send you a link to the client portal so that you can conveniently complete the intake paperwork prior to your first appointment. Please make sure you complete the online forms prior to your appointment. This gives your clinician an opportunity to review the information prior to your meeting.
What is your payment policy?
Payment is due at the time of service. We accept all major credit cards, cash and checks. We also accept Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) as payment. If you don’t have a debit card associated with your FSA or HSA account, we're happy to provide you with the documentation needed for you to go after reimbursement.
Do you accept insurance?
We do not accept insurance and are consider self-pay so that we can focus on providing comprehensive and confidential services tailored to your needs without forced treatment plans/goals from insurance companies. Most of our clients choose not to involve their insurance provider in their treatment. Here is why:
- Insurance companies require providers to assign a mental health diagnosis to confirm that you have a “disorder.” The types of concerns that bring clients to Mind Body Connect 360 often do not require a mental health diagnosis. Many are seeking services to explore, understand and remove obstacles needed to reach optimal functioning in specified areas of their lives. We do not feel that it is beneficial to fit everyone into a mental health diagnosis box.
- You will not have a diagnosis label permanently attached to your health record.
- Your records are protected, which means all information about you, including very personal information, cannot be obtained by your insurance company
If you have out-of-network benefits and would like to utilize them, as a courtesy we're happy to provide you with documentation for out-of-network reimbursement.
The way this works: You will be required to make payment at the time of service. Upon request, we will give you a bi-weekly or monthly invoice (superbill) that you can submit for reimbursement for out-of-network benefits. Your insurance company will then send you a check directly with the reimbursement that they are willing to provide. Reimbursement is between you and your insurance company. If you are considering this option it is advisable to contact your insurance company to inquire about your out-of-network benefits prior to your first appointment.
What can I expect from my first session?
First sessions are known as initial intake sessions and are typically longer (60-75 minutes) than regular sessions (50 minutes). This gives your clinician an opportunity to understand your history, learn about your goals, and begin to devise a plan for how to get you there. The first part of the session is covering the initial paperwork including informed consent, privacy and practice policies. The second half of the session feels more conversational where we are discussing important background information about who you are.
Can I schedule online?
Absolutely! The Mind Body Connect 360 online portal is an easy way for you to schedule sessions at your convenience from the comfort of your home 24/7. This scheduling option is open to both new and current clients. Click “Schedule a Session” at the top of the page to access the online scheduler.

What can I expect from my first session?
First sessions are known as initial intake sessions and are typically longer (90 minutes) than regular sessions (50 minutes). This gives Dr. Bao-Tich Nguyen an opportunity to understand your primary health concerns, learn about your goals, and begin to devise a plan for how to get you there. The first part of the session covers the initial paperwork including the comprehensive intake, chief complaint, relevant medical history, treatment goals, and treatment plan. The second half of the session is the acupuncture treatment.
What should I do before my session?
If this is your first session, please make sure you have completed the online paperwork prior to your appointment. For both new and returning clients, it is important to stay well-hydrated and eat something within a few hours before the session. It isn’t necessary to have a big meal, but a light snack can help the body maintain its energy during treatment to reduce potential symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, or even fainting.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment so that the Dr. Bao-Tich Nguyen can easily access the acupuncture points, and more importantly, to help you fully relax during the session.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the practice of inserting single-use, sterile filiform needles into specific points on the body that belongs to a meridian or channel. Each meridian usually correlates with an organ in the body. When an organ is out of balance or is diseased, the flow of energy or life force (known as “qi” or “chi”) that traverses these meridians becomes stagnant. This blockage is what leads to ailments in both the body and mind. Inserting needles at strategic points along these meridians helps to unblock these stagnations, restore the normal flow of qi, and thus address many medical problems.
Acupuncture can be used to prevent, treat, or cure numerous health conditions. It is an effective and natural way of restoring balance and promoting wellness throughout the body. Since the body and mind are connected, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind, and vice versa.
Is acupuncture safe?
Yes, acupuncture is safe if practiced by a licensed acupuncturist. For centuries, acupuncture has been proven to be a safe and effective form of treatment for many acute and chronic conditions. At Mind Body Connect 360, we use new, sterile, disposable, single-use acupuncture needles. All needles that are used during treatment are discarded immediately after each session and are never re-used in subsequent treatments. Therefore, there is virtually no chance that you can contract bloodborne diseases from receiving acupuncture with us. Besides an occasional bruise at the site of insertion, acupuncture has no side effects.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are very thin, flexible needles made of surgical grade stainless steel. These needles are much thinner than hypodermic needles. Clients are often surprised by how little they feel when the acupuncture needles are inserted, although it is not uncommon to feel the sensation of a pinprick, a dull ache, slight numbness, or tingling during the insertion of the needle or shortly thereafter at the site of insertion. These sensations are brief and any discomfort usually goes away within seconds.
The needles are often retained for 20-40 minutes.
How many treatments do I need?
The number of treatments depends on several factors, including the condition that is being treated, and the chronicity and severity of the condition. A common treatment plan for a single complaint often involves 4-6 treatments. On average, we recommend 1 acupuncture treatment per week, but it is not uncommon to receive more or less than this number.
Do you provide any other services besides acupuncture?
At Mind Body Connect 360, our goal is to help you achieve optimal health in body and mind. We use a variety of tools and techniques to help you regain and maintain good health. In addition to acupuncture, other services we provide include electro-stimulation, cupping, gua sha, tui na (Chinese massage therapy), and dietary/lifestyle advice. These services are usually not offered by themselves but are rather incorporated into the acupuncture session at the clinician’s discretion, at no additional cost.

30 minute session - $80.00
60 minute session - $105.00

Can you tell me more about your free introductory session?
An introductory session allows you to see what Reiki is like, how it feels and gives you a chance to ask questions. Parents are welcome to stay in the room with young children, allowing you and your child to experience how peaceful a session is. There will be no pressure to schedule a follow-up session. I enjoy giving those who’ve never received Reiki the opportunity to experience it, and discover what it has to offer.
How many sessions do people typically need to experience the positive effects of Reiki?
The number of sessions recommended depends upon the issue(s) which bring you to Reiki, whether physical and/or emotional, and the length of time the issues have existed. At least three to five initial sessions are most common.

How does Reiki work?
The Reiki practitioner is trained to be sensitive to the energy emitted by your body. Working with this energy addresses toxins (illness) on a physical level, while activating your body’s natural healing abilities. Reiki is a truly holistic modality, affecting not only the body, but the mind and spirit as well – your mental and emotional well-being. For example, those suffering everything from grief, turmoil and anxiety, lack of focus, anger, or stress seek Reiki treatments to help with these issues.
What can I expect from my first Reiki session?
You are welcome to let me know if you have specific concerns, whether physical, mental or both. Only restrictive items such as belts, shoes, eyeglasses and jewelry need to be removed. Relaxing music will be played as a soothing background. Reiki sessions consist of placing my hands very gently on different areas of the body. I may ask you questions depending upon what comes up during your session, and you’re welcome to ask me about any sensations/impressions you experience. If the session is for your child, I will give feedback to parents about the session.
Due to COVID, please bring an eye pillow with you if you like them. This will help to maintain a safe environment.
Can you tell me more about the positive physical, mental and emotional effects of Reiki?
On a physical level, Reiki helps the body to heal itself. It boosts the immune system. It has helped to speed recovery from surgery, to lessen the need for pain medication and reduced the side effects of medical treatments. On mental/emotional levels Reiki brings a deep sense of peace, of calm and well-being. This helps to equip one to heal trauma, depression and PTSD for just a few examples. For a more detailed explanation, please click on the “Services” tab in the web header and select “Reiki.” Here you will find more information.
It sounds like Reiki has a multitude of health benefits. In what other settings is Reiki being used?
Today, Reiki is offered in most major hospitals across the U.S., including INOVA Fairfax and Loudoun Hospitals.
I see patients in hospital/hospice, or at home at the request of the patient or family. Reiki is considered by NIH to be a CAM–Complimentary Alternative Modality.
I’m thinking about scheduling an appointment for my child. What are the benefits of Reiki for children and teens?
Giving Reiki sessions to kids is one of my favorite things about my practice. They’re curious, they ask great questions, and they love to give feedback. I’m always surprised at the funny, sensitive, often eloquent ways they describe what they feel during and after a session.
One of the most common reasons parents bring their children in is for ADHD. It is common for kids with ADHD to say they’d never felt so relaxed as they had during their sessions. In fact, it is typical for many to fall asleep within the first 15 minutes. After subsequent sessions, they felt that they were better able to focus while in school, doing homework, and studying was easier.
Other common reasons that parents bring their kids in for Reiki is for stress, anxiety, panic attacks, and fatigue. Parents will bring kids in for medical issues (in addition to their medical care) because Reiki helps with pain and anxiety. Reiki has been beneficial for kids dealing with night terrors.
Giving Reiki to kids is invaluable. They learn about and become open to an alternative modality that has immeasurable benefits on all levels. They’ll reap the rewards for the rest of their lives. They tell other kids about it because they think it’s “cool.” In fact, I’ve had kids ask for my brochure so they can give it to their teachers. That’s huge!
