Licensed Acupuncturist in Ashburn, Virginia

The wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine has been practiced for more than 3000 years. It is a powerful approach in restoring the body's natural state of balance and alignment, contributing to an increase in overall health and well-being. Restoring harmony and balance in your body will release the body's own extraordinary healing potential, allowing the body to repair itself, bringing relief from your physical and emotional symptoms. The World Health Organization (WHO) and The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) both established acupuncture's safety and efficacy for treating a wide range of conditions including; acute and chronic pain, digestive complaints, sleep issues, and emotional and psychological concerns.

While all of our sessions consist of Acupuncture, you can expect to receive any combination of services in a single session such as Electro-stimulation, Cupping, Gua Sha, Tui Na and Dietary Recommendations. To get started, our licensed acupuncturist Dr. Bao-Tich Nguyen will conduct a 90-minute comprehensive assessment that will result in a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. In addition to a thorough assessment of your concerns, tongue and pulse diagnosis help to determine the type of treatment and which technique(s) to use during your session. You can expect your first acupuncture treatment to be rolled into your 90-minute initial intake session.

Acupuncture

acupuncture pictureAcupuncture is the practice of inserting thin needles through the skin at various points on the body. These specific points belong to a meridian or channel, which often correlates with an organ in the body. When an organ is out of balance or diseased, the flow of energy or life force (known as “qi” or “chi”) that travels along these meridians also goes out of balance. Inserting needles at strategic points along these meridians helps to restore the normal flow of qi, leading to balance and wellness in the entire body. For centuries, acupuncture has been used to successfully treat many difficult or “incurable” diseases. Nowadays, it is often used to both prevent and treat many common as well as lesser-known conditions.

Electro-Stimulation

electrostim pictureAlso called e-stim, electro-stimulation involves regular acupuncture plus the attachment of electro-current clips that safely and gently stimulate the needle. The selected frequency and intensity of the current is chosen based on the condition being treated. This form of acupuncture primarily helps with circulation by stimulating the nerves and muscles. It is often incorporated into treatments that involve acute or chronic pain. Clients should feel light, gentle, steady tapping where the needle and electro-current clips have been inserted.

Cupping and Gua Sha

Cupping picture

Cupping and gua sha are different forms of myofascial release that are often used to treat pain and acute conditions. Cupping involves placing specialized plastic or glass cups onto an area of skin and creating suction to relax the muscles, improve circulation, and detox the body.

Gua sha is an ancient method of applying pressure and scraping the skin using a massage tool. This technique helps to promote blood circulation, relieve stagnation, and remove excess heat in the body. Gua sha is usually done on the back, shoulders, and neck, but it is not uncommon to receive gua sha on the face, trunk and limbs. Any small tool with a hard, flat, or slightly curved edge can be used to perform gua sha, including a stone, coin, or spoon.

Tui Na

Tui-na pictureTui na is a form of medical massage originating from China. It is considered one of the oldest styles of bodywork. This form of therapeutic massage involves applying pressure to stimulate various areas of the body, including the acupuncture points. Various techniques (rolling, kneading, pressing, lifting, etc.) and pressures are applied and are chosen based on the presenting pattern and the client’s comfort level with the technique being used. Tui na has many benefits, including enhancing circulation, promoting relaxation, easing tension, and restoring the flow of qi throughout the body.
